UK Firms Lobby for US Online Gambling Legislation
Some of the biggest online gambling firms in the UK are showing their support of the American effort to legalize online gambling. SportingBet, Pokerstars and PartyGaming are among the many big names that have hired lobbying companies to present their case to the American Congress. UC Group, a leading payment processing company, has already spent over £3 million USD in attempts to lobby American politicians and convince them to consider gambling legislation.
UC Group works with 10 online gambling firms, and sees the benefit of the reopening of the American internet gambling industry. It has worked hard recently to abolish the ban on online gambling, viewing the move as a long term strategy for the growth of the UK gambling market.
Party Gaming has spent over 900 000 on lobbying fees over the past year, in an attempt to promote American online gambling legislation. SportingBet has put $60 000 USD towards the cause, as well. The amount of money that UK firms are spending on lobbying is indicative of how potentially lucrative the American market is.
It has been speculated that American casino operators will be the first to benefit from the law change, as they will be granted an advantage on licensing. UK firms have also predicted this scenario and the vast amount of money that they are putting towards the cause is to ensure that this doesn’t happen.
