Sports Gambling Raids Net Eight Arrests In Singapore

What Las Vegas turned into a billion dollar industry is illegal in other states and countries. Illegal betting on sports is something that authorities have long been cracking down on.

Over the weekend, another of these illegal operations was broken up by police in Singapore. Authorities raided different locations around the country and have arrested eight people in conjunction with the operation.

The Western part of Singapore was the target of a nine hour sting operation carried out by police on Saturday. Seven men and one woman were arrested and all ranged in age from twenty five to fifty three years old.

While involved with the raids, officers seized various items related to the gambling operation. Laptop computers, hand phones, and ledger books with figures in them totaling $9,000 were all taken in the bust.

“Police will continue to take tough enforcement actions against illegal gambling activities and will not hesitate to prosecute persons involved in such activities,” said Superintendent Goh Lam Kiong, the Assistant Director of Specialized Crime Division at the CID.

The operation was said to be taking bets on horse racing and soccer mainly. Other sports may also have been bet on through the gambling scheme. The operation was carried out through online bets.
