Poker Players Alliance Director Says Online Poker Bill May Go As Attachment

Barney Frank is the man behind the bill in front of Capitol Hill to legalize Online gambling for USA Online Casinos and USA Online Poker. It was his goal, as he says, to get the bill passed as a “stand alone bill” with the contingency plan of it being an attachment to that of another piece of legislation.

The Bill cleared the first hurdle on Capitol Hill, but Frank admitted that many more steps needed to be taken before the the implementation of the bill would be realized, if at all.

Now, Franks believes that the better path for the bill may be to put it as an attachment.

Poker Players Alliance Executive Director John Pappas agrees with Frank that the bill as an attachment “makes a lot more sense”

“There will be some opportunity to move legislation between the election and the new year,” remarked Pappas in an interview with Card Player. “In an ideal world, we get something done before the election. But the next opportunity after that is the lame-duck session.”

In the interview, Pappas discussed the potential impact the bill could have on those who play online poker and at online casinos.

“I think it’s a huge momentum boost for the issue. I think that what it demonstrates is that the old way of thinking in Congress has changed. If you look back at 2006, when the House actually voted on an Internet [gaming] prohibition bill, not the UIGEA but a similar bill, it passed by a 5-1 margin.”

Pappas is worried however about the potential amendments that could be added to the bill that would curve its original intent.  Online Gambling is a topic for which many people have stark opinions on and believe that it should be allowed or outlawed.

Both Frank and Pappas are committed to seeing that the bill makes it way and changes the that the Online Gambling industry operates in the United States.
