MGM Foxwoods launching free mobile games

In what could be a useful practice run for the future, the MGM Grand at Foxwoods is gearing up to launch a branded iPhone application that includes a resort tour and play-for-free casino games.

The casino says that the app will have a variety of MGM Foxwoods’-themed casino games, which will all be offered in play-for-fun mode. The games will attempt to simulate all the sights and sounds of an actual casino, and the application in general will also have a “resort experience” feature, which gives users in-depth property tours, and the ability for users to virtually visit Foxwoods hotel rooms, restaurants, retail shops and spas.

Users will be offered coaching on the best casino game strategies, and will also be able to make real bookings for Foxwoods facilities.

The iPhone app store is no stranger to games – even casino-oriented offerings. Zynga has a popular iPhone app available and there many applications in the store that let users play slots, blackjack and poker. What’s interesting is the use of the iPhone app as a branding tool for the resort part of the casino. Recently, Million-2-1 launched a play-for-fun iPhone version of slot machine game Cleopatra.
